MyTravelBuddy remote MCP

Use this exact HTTPS address. Authentication happens through MyTravelBuddy OAuth — never paste a static access token.

Before you start

What you need

  • A MyTravelBuddy account with at least one trip you can access.
  • A Perplexity plan that includes custom remote MCP connectors.
  • Perplexity credentials created in MyTravelBuddy Settings → Developer (Client ID + one-time Client Secret).

Setup guide

Connect in 4 steps

  1. 01

    Create Perplexity credentials

    Perplexity needs a confidential Client ID and Client Secret. Create them yourself in MyTravelBuddy.

    • Open MyTravelBuddy → Settings → Developer.
    • Choose Create Perplexity credentials and copy the Client ID plus the one-time Client Secret.
    • Store the secret securely. MyTravelBuddy cannot show it again after you dismiss it.
  2. 02

    Add a custom connector

    Enter the remote MCP URL and the credentials from Developer settings.

    • Open Perplexity Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector.
    • Name it MyTravelBuddy and set the MCP server URL to https://mcp.mytravelbuddy.ai.
    • Under Advanced, choose OAuth and enter the Client ID and Client Secret, then add the connector.
  3. 03

    Connect and approve permissions

    Perplexity will open MyTravelBuddy for sign-in and consent.

    • Click Connect if authorization does not begin automatically.
    • Sign in to MyTravelBuddy, review the requested permissions, and approve.
    • Return to Perplexity and confirm MyTravelBuddy appears under Connected.
  4. 04

    Research with your real trip in mind

    Enable the connector for a thread and ask Perplexity to use your trip context from MyTravelBuddy.

    • Start a thread and enable MyTravelBuddy if Perplexity requires per-thread selection.
    • Research destinations, timing, neighborhoods, or options against your actual itinerary.
    • Ask MyTravelBuddy to save the conclusion only after you decide what belongs in the trip.

Troubleshooting

Common questions

I do not see Add custom connector

Custom remote connectors require an eligible Perplexity plan and may be controlled by your workspace administrator.

OAuth does not open or fails

Confirm the Client ID and one-time secret were copied exactly from Settings → Developer. Rotate the secret there if it was lost, then update Perplexity.

Perplexity does not use MyTravelBuddy in a thread

Enable MyTravelBuddy for that thread and explicitly ask Perplexity to use it. Some Perplexity surfaces require per-conversation connector selection.
